LN2-Cooled InGaAs Camera Provides Unprecedented NIR/SWIR Performance!

Princeton Instruments is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the NIRvana:640LN, the highest performance scientific-grade camera for near-infrared and short-wavelength infrared (NIR/SWIR) applications yet! This new addition to the popular NIRvana® line features a specially designed InGaAs focal plane array (FPA) that has extremely low readout and thermal noise that is ideal for ultra-low-light imaging and spectroscopy.

The NIRvana:640LN delivers a combination of >75% quantum efficiency in the critical NIR/SWIR window along with the deepest liquid nitrogen cooling (83 Kelvin) currently achievable for an advanced InGaAs FPA, permitting exposure times in excess of 60 minutes. The camera’s unprecedented performance facilitates such challenging applications in NIR/SWIR wavelength region as semiconductor failure analysis, SWIR astronomy, emission microscopy and biological deep-tissue imaging.

“The new liquid-nitrogen–cooled NIRvana raises the bar for SWIR sensitivity set by our thermoelectrically cooled NIRvana cameras and can tackle next-generation SWIR applications with ease,” observes Manjul Shah, application specialist for imaging and x-ray products at Princeton Instruments. “For example, the NIRvana:640LN provides 30 times lower dark current than previously possible and extends integration times beyond an hour — dark-charge performance approaching that of silicon-based detectors. In addition, the camera boasts novel features such as nondestructive readout [NDRO], which gives users the ability to ‘peek’ at their data during integration without destroying it.” Other features beneficial to scientific researchers include linear, quantitative data readout as well as maintaining sensor temperature at 83 K (-190°C) up to 36 hours without refilling.

The NIRvana:640LN is fully compatible with Princeton Instruments’ LightField® 64-bit application software, an optional package that provides complete control of camera features via a cutting-edge graphical user interface. For researchers requiring a custom interface, toolkits for National Instruments’ LabVIEW® and MathWorks’ MATLAB® are available, as are free software development kits (SDKs). The new InGaAs camera has also been designed for easy integration with the award-winning Princeton Instruments IsoPlane® 320 spectrograph to further leverage its excellent imaging and spectroscopic performance.
