Production Manager

Location: Trenton, NJ facility

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this hands-on leadership role will directly manage all production personnel and production performance in the Trenton, NJ facility of Princeton Instruments. The Production Manager will lead change management for continuous improvement using lean and six sigma methodologies and will ensure goals and objectives are met while complying with company policies/procedures and all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate manufacturing job activities and schedules throughout manufacturing to ensure on-time delivery, revenue attainment, product reliability, productivity and cost control, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide hands-on leadership for the production and test group for the attainment of goals and meeting commitments with respect to cost, quality, production, asset management, safety and compliance.
  • Lead all production activities at the operating level to achieve effective and efficient use of facilities and personnel as well as conformance to schedules and budgets.
  • Implement strategies that lead the production group to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve quality, reduce WIP and Cycle Times, and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Use good interpersonal skills to effectively work with Materials, Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and other groups in support of ongoing as well as new products.
  • Plan & prepare production schedules.
  • Plan and track internal manufacturing jobs, jobs running at outside vendors, and jobs delivered to subsidiary sites.
  • Select, hire, train, develop, and provide ongoing leadership and direction of assigned personnel.
  • Develop, coach and mentor staff with inspiration and enthusiasm, coming up with new ways to motivate and involve employees.
  • Establish an environment conducive to employee participation and facilitate the development of teams.

Professional reqirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Business or equivalent experience
  • Prior supervisory/ leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience interfacing with customers, auditors, external company personnel, product management and engineering.
  • Experience with ERP Systems in a Manufacturing Environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9000.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Computer skills, especially EXCEL, and associated office productivity software.
  • Experience in manufacturing of electro-mechanical product.
  • Prior Experience with Imaging and/ Optical Products is preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Experience are Preferred.

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Spectroscopy Products

Location: Acton, MA facility

Princeton Instrument is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering/R&D team located in Acton, Massachusetts. We are looking for a senior level ME with strong individual and team-based problem solving skills to help us create state-of-the-art spectroscopy products, manufacturing processes and innovative solutions for our customers.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Strong mechanical engineering skills
  • High proficiency working with SolidWorks and other engineering/software
  • Ability to communicate technical information at all levels, written and verbally
  • Experience managing multiple projects from concept to completion, on-time and within budget
  • A strong understanding of electro-optical systems and spectroscopy equipment a plus

Senior Electrical Engineer - Camera Development

Location: Trenton, NJ facility

Princeton Instruments, a global leader in high-performance scientific and industrial cameras has an open position for a manufacturing engineer at its Trenton facility. This position offers the right candidate a considerable opportunity for professional achievement and the amplitude to make significant strides in improving Princeton Instruments’ manufacturing and quality processes.


The development engineer will be an individual contributor to the design and development of leading edge imaging and spectroscopy cameras for scientific, industrial and security applications. The engineer will execute both digital and analog circuit design, development, trouble shooting, documentation and transfer of new products to production. Digital design includes hardware and firmware design using programmable logic, microcontrollers and DSPs. The engineer may also serve as project leader from time to time as the need arises.

Education and Experience:

A BSEE or equivalent experience is the minimum required, MSEE or equivalent experience is a plus. The successful candidate will have at least 4 years experience in both analog and digital design with programmable logic (Altera preferred). Experience with embedded microcontrollers is a plus. At least 4 years experience in digital design and debugging is required. Understanding of digital design should include both the fundamentals and modern design methods (structured design, VHDL, etc.). Understanding of and ability to design with high performance analog components (op-amps, high resolution ADCs, DACs) is required. Knowledge of CCD video and control are required, and CMOS imagers is a plus. Knowledge of modern image processing techniques and standards is a plus. Experience with bringing a product into production in a small company environment is highly desired.
